Overview
AAPC currently administers the CPC as 100 multiple-choice questions in four hours with a 70% passing score. The final 10 questions are medical-record cases, one question per case. AAPC allows approved CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II code books during the exam.

- AAPC's current blueprint allocates 10 of 100 questions to cases, making case performance a full 10% of the exam.
- At four hours for 100 questions, the average pace is about 2.4 minutes per question; difficult case questions should not consume unlimited time.
- Start with the answer choices when useful: they can reveal whether the real decision is anatomy, approach, diagnosis specificity, modifier use, or bundling.
