Overview
Inspect the steering and suspension systematically before adjustment or replacement. The G1 task list spans SRS precautions, power-steering components, steering linkage, control arms, ball joints, springs, shocks/struts, wheel bearings, electronic suspension, and related warning/DTC checks.
Core Concepts
- Follow the specified SRS disable procedure and wait time before work near airbag components.
- Inspect power-steering fluid level/condition, leakage, hoses, belt/tensioner/pulley alignment where applicable, and basic pump/gear operation.
- Inspect tie rods, relay/center links, idler/pitman arms, rack/gear mounts, steering knuckles/arms, control arms, bushings, ball joints, springs, shocks/struts, and mounts for damage or looseness.
Exam Tips
- Repair structural damage or excessive looseness before alignment.
- Treat service information as the tie-breaker for inspection method, torque, calibration, and permitted movement.
