The exam tests foundational AWS monitoring, logging, analysis, remediation, and performance optimization practices used to maintain operational stability and respond to incidents. It covers native AWS services and Systems Manager capabilities used to observe, automate, and remediate issues across infrastructure.
Core Concepts
- **CloudWatch Metrics & Logs:** Metrics are time-series numerical data, while logs are timestamped event records. CloudWatch alarms evaluate metrics or supported anomaly-detection expressions; logs can be queried, filtered, transformed into metrics, or streamed to supported destinations.
- **CloudWatch Dashboards & Alarms:** Dashboards provide consolidated views of metrics and logs. Alarms evaluate metric conditions over configured periods, and state changes can invoke supported actions such as SNS, Auto Scaling, EC2, or Systems Manager actions when explicitly configured.
- **CloudWatch Logs Subscription Filters:** Subscription filters stream matching log events in near real time to supported destinations such as Kinesis Data Streams, Lambda, or Amazon Data Firehose depending on configuration. Delivery to S3 commonly uses Data Firehose or another processing path; export tasks are separate for historical exports to S3.
