Overview

Choose the execution platform and API pattern from the workload rather than from habit. Compare Compute Engine, GKE, and Cloud Run by control, operational burden, scaling model, latency, and cost; then design for regional or zonal placement, load balancing, caching, session behavior, and failure recovery.

Core Concepts

Cloud Run is a managed container platform; GKE provides Kubernetes control; Compute Engine provides VM-level control.
Regional and zonal placement affect latency and failure domains; a multi-zone or multi-region design must match the required failover model.
Memorystore is a managed cache; use cache invalidation, TTLs, and a fallback path rather than treating cached data as the system of record. Session affinity can help some stateful or cache-warm workloads, but it is not a replacement for external session storage.
