Overview
Enterprise governance of information and technology (EGIT) ensures that stakeholder needs, conditions, and options are evaluated; direction is set through prioritization and decision-making; and performance/compliance are monitored against agreed objectives.
Core Concepts
- COBIT distinguishes governance from management. Governance is associated with Evaluate, Direct and Monitor (EDM); management aligns/plans/organizes, builds/acquires/implements, delivers/services/supports, and monitors/evaluates operational execution.
- The purpose of EGIT is to create stakeholder value from enterprise I&T by balancing benefits realization, risk optimization, and resource optimization.
- Governance applies to enterprise information and technology wherever it occurs, not merely the central IT department.

- CGEIT mindset: stakeholder value first, then balance benefits, risk, and resources.
