Overview
This objective requires CISA candidates to evaluate is audit standards, guidelines, and codes of ethics from an auditor's perspective rather than from the perspective of the person operating the process.
Core Concepts
- IS audit standards define mandatory requirements for planning, performing, documenting, and reporting audit work; guidelines and procedures help translate those requirements into practice.
- Auditor independence and objectivity must be protected in both fact and appearance; threats include self-review, management participation, familiarity, advocacy, and conflicts of interest.
- Professional due care means applying the competence, skepticism, judgment, and diligence expected of a qualified IS auditor; it does not mean guaranteeing that every control failure or fraud will be detected.
Exam Tips
- Read qualifiers such as FIRST, BEST, MOST important, PRIMARY, and GREATEST carefully; they usually determine the intended level of action.
- Start with audit objective and risk, protect independence, obtain sufficient appropriate evidence, and let evidence drive the conclusion.
