Overview
This objective covers the licensing mechanics most likely to generate exact-rule questions. The current Louisiana Claims Adjuster Act should control when it differs from older shorthand in the 2016 PSI outline.
Core Concepts
- R.S. 22:1663 requires a license before a person acts or holds out as a claims adjuster. A business entity that acts as an adjuster must also be licensed and designate a licensed claims adjuster responsible for compliance.
- Resident individual applicant: generally must be at least 18, meet application/qualification requirements, pay fees, and pass the required examination unless an exemption applies.
- Limited claims-adjuster license: the license specifically limits the kinds of insurance that may be handled, and the licensee may not adjust outside those kinds.

- For exact-rule questions, identify the statutory trigger before choosing a number.
- Memorize: 18+ resident; 2-year renewal; 30-day change report; 24-month lapse cutoff; 24 CE hours; first renewal CE exemption.
