Overview
This objective covers producer appointment for the Michigan Life, Accident and Health Producer (Series 16-80) exam.
Core Concepts
- A Michigan producer must be properly appointed by an insurer before acting as that insurer's agent.
- A producer license and an insurer appointment are separate requirements: licensure authorizes insurance activity; appointment creates the agency relationship with a particular insurer.
- An appointment does not give unlimited authority; the producer may act only within authority actually granted by the insurer.
Exam Tips
- Memorize the rule, not just the label: A Michigan producer must be properly appointed by an insurer before acting as that insurer's agent.
- When the question includes a deadline, percentage, waiting period, party role, or before/after sequence, write that fact down before evaluating the choices.
