Question 1 of 16
Walk me through Michigan’s producer-appointment timing rule. What events start the clock, who files the appointment, how is it filed, and what is the deadline?
Strong Interview Answer
The insurer files the appointment electronically. Michigan DIFS requires the filing within 15 days after the first insurance application is submitted to that insurer or an agency contract is executed, whichever event occurs first. A Michigan license alone does not create authority to act as that insurer’s agent; appointment is insurer-specific.
What to Listen For
- insurer files
- electronic appointment
- 15 days
- first application or agency contract
- license versus appointment
Caution
Do not say the producer files the appointment or that a P&C license alone authorizes the producer to bind every insurer.
