Core Concepts
- PIM reduces standing privilege by making roles eligible and requiring activation only when needed.
- PIM activation can be constrained with duration, MFA, justification, approval, notifications, and access reviews depending on configuration.
- Conditional Access evaluates identity and context signals and then applies grant or session controls; it is an authorization policy layer, not the user's first-factor authentication mechanism.
Exam Tips
- Start with least privilege and smallest scope.
- When a question says 'no stored credentials,' managed identity is a leading answer.
