- A fully amortized loan uses scheduled payments that pay all required principal and interest by maturity.
- A partially amortized loan has periodic payments that reduce principal but do not fully repay the debt by maturity; the remaining balance becomes a balloon payment.
- A balloon payment is the large final payment of the remaining unpaid principal at maturity.
