Overview
Accurate EKG acquisition starts before the patient is connected: the machine, leads, electrodes, paper, battery/power, settings, and accessories must be ready and functioning.
Core Concepts
- Inspect the EKG machine, lead wires/cables, clips/connectors, power cord, battery, paper supply, electrodes, and accessories before use.
- Remove damaged equipment from service and report it according to facility procedure rather than attempting unauthorized repair.
- Verify correct paper loading and that the thermal/grid side is oriented according to the device.
Exam Tips
- 25 mm/s + 10 mm/mV is the default unless told otherwise.
- Tall/short complexes may be gain; stretched/compressed time may be speed.
