This objective carries a large share of the Personal Insurance domain. Expect application questions that mix form type, cause of loss, property category, exclusions/conditions, valuation, and post-loss duties.
Core Concepts
- North Carolina standard fire form: covers direct loss by fire, lightning, and other endorsed perils to described property, subject to ACV, repair/replacement cost, policy limit, and insurable-interest ceilings.
- The unendorsed statutory fire grant does not include compensation for interruption of business or manufacture.
- After fire loss: immediate written notice, protection from further damage, separation of damaged/undamaged personal property, detailed inventory, sworn proof of loss within 60 days unless extended in writing, and production/examination duties when reasonably required.
Exam Tips
- On any property question, write five mental labels: form, property, cause, exclusion/endorsement, valuation.
- Memorize 60/60 for the NC standard fire form: 60-day proof of loss; vacancy beyond 60 consecutive days is a coverage-restriction trigger.
