Overview
Start every auto claim with the issued declarations, coverage form, endorsements, who qualifies as an insured, and which auto classification applies.
Core Concepts
- Liability coverage addresses covered bodily injury and property damage for which an insured is legally responsible, subject to the form, exclusions, and limits.
- Collision is first-party physical-damage coverage for collision/overturn losses; comprehensive or 'other than collision' addresses covered noncollision causes such as theft, hail, fire, vandalism, or falling objects.
- A deductible generally applies to first-party physical-damage coverage, not as a substitute for a liability limit.
Exam Tips
- Read the verb in the stem: 'causes damage to another' points to liability; 'damage to the insured auto' points to physical damage.
- Do not let employment status turn an employee-owned vehicle into an owned auto.
