Question 1 of 20

Walk me through how you distinguish a feeder from a branch circuit when looking at a one-line diagram.

Strong Interview Answer

A feeder carries power from service equipment or another source to the final branch-circuit overcurrent device. A branch circuit begins on the load side of that final overcurrent device and extends to the outlets or utilization equipment. I identify the conductors by function and by where the final branch-circuit OCPD sits in the power path.

What to Listen For

  • feeder
  • final branch-circuit OCPD
  • branch circuit
  • one-line diagram

Caution

Do not define a feeder as simply 'source to load'; identify the final branch-circuit overcurrent device boundary.
