Overview
Core is the rulebook behind every Type I, Type II, Type III, and Universal question. Read each scenario for the activity first: attaching gauges, adding or removing refrigerant, opening the circuit, recovering refrigerant, or disposing of an appliance. Those details determine whether Section 608 certification is required.
Core Concepts
- **Technician activity:** Attaching or detaching hoses and gauges, adding refrigerant, removing refrigerant, or otherwise violating circuit integrity can trigger certification requirements.
- **Apprentice exception:** An apprentice may work without certification only while closely and continually supervised by a certified technician.
- **Certification scope:** Type I covers small appliances, Type II covers high- and very-high-pressure appliances except small appliances and MVACs, Type III covers low-pressure appliances, and Universal covers all three.
Exam Tips
- Identify the appliance category before choosing the certification type.
- Treat attaching gauges as a regulated technician activity unless the scenario clearly says otherwise.
