AZ-104 Job Roles and Azure Administrator Skills

Azure Administrator is the most direct role connection for AZ-104. The exam aligns with tasks such as managing Microsoft Entra users and groups, assigning RBAC roles, configuring subscriptions and resource groups, deploying virtual machines, managing storage, maintaining virtual networks, configuring monitoring, and protecting resources with backup and recovery.

Cloud operations and infrastructure roles often use AZ-104 skills daily. Those responsibilities may include checking Azure Monitor alerts, responding to VM or network incidents, reviewing storage access, maintaining backup policies, updating tags and policies, managing App Service settings, or coordinating with security, networking, database, and application teams.

Support engineering roles also benefit from AZ-104 knowledge because the exam emphasizes troubleshooting. Candidates should understand how to inspect RBAC assignments, effective NSG rules, route tables, DNS behavior, load balancer health probes, storage access, VM state, backup jobs, and Log Analytics results before escalating an incident.

AZ-104 alone does not turn someone into an architect, DevOps engineer, or security engineer. It can provide a strong administration base for those directions, but deeper role-specific skills usually come from additional experience and targeted certifications such as AZ-305, AZ-400, AZ-500, AZ-700, or AZ-140.
