AZ-305 Study Roadmap for Azure Architecture

A strong AZ-305 roadmap follows Microsoft’s skills areas and adapts to your weak architecture decisions instead of relying on fixed weeks or unsupported totals.

Start With Microsoft’s Current Scope

Begin with the Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification page and the AZ-305 study guide. Confirm the prerequisite certification path, audience profile, skills measured, and current exam updates. Use those Microsoft pages as the map for study rather than local metadata or unsupported domain counts.

Build Around Design Themes

Organize study into design themes: identity and governance, monitoring, relational data, semi-structured and unstructured data, backup and disaster recovery, high availability, compute platform selection, application architecture, migration, hybrid connectivity, private access, load balancing, and security. For each theme, write down the decision criteria.

Practice Architecture Comparisons

Compare Azure services in pairs and groups. Use Azure SQL versus Managed Instance versus Cosmos DB, App Service versus Functions versus Container Apps versus AKS, Front Door versus Application Gateway versus Load Balancer versus Traffic Manager, ExpressRoute versus VPN Gateway, Azure Backup versus Site Recovery, and service endpoints versus Private Link.

Review Weak Areas With Design Notes

After practice, record the design reason behind each miss. Was the issue compliance, identity boundary, monitoring, high availability, disaster recovery, cost, latency, operational complexity, migration readiness, or hybrid connectivity? Tie the correction to the relevant Azure service and scenario.

Final Review

In final review, revisit the official skills areas and common architecture tradeoffs. Avoid memorizing unsupported counts or fixed schedules. Focus on reading the scenario carefully, identifying the controlling requirement, eliminating designs that violate it, and choosing the Azure architecture that best balances security, resiliency, performance, cost, and operations.
