AZ-900 Related Certifications & Career Paths

Earning AZ-900 demonstrates basic cloud and Azure understanding. It is a useful first step before role-based credentials, but the next certification should match the work you want to do: administer Azure, build applications, secure environments, or design solutions.

AZ-104 is the natural operations path after AZ-900. It focuses on configuring, managing, securing, and administering Azure resources such as identities, storage, compute, networking, monitoring, and backup. It is a significant step up from fundamentals and benefits from Azure Portal and command-line practice.

AZ-204 is the developer path. It is associated with building, testing, deploying, and maintaining Azure applications and services. Choose it when your goal is application development with services such as App Service, Functions, storage, identity, messaging, and monitoring.

AZ-500, Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate, is the security path. AZ-305 is associated with Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert and focuses on designing Azure infrastructure solutions; Microsoft’s current expert-certification path includes prerequisite requirements, so verify the certification page before planning.

A realistic progression might be AZ-900 to AZ-104 to AZ-305 for administration-to-architecture, AZ-900 to AZ-204 for development, or AZ-900 to AZ-500 for security. Keep the path tied to role goals rather than collecting exam codes without a direction.
