Overview
Patient Care is the largest current CPCT/A domain. Early questions commonly test whether the PCT/A can perform routine care safely while preserving independence, dignity, privacy, and role boundaries.
Core Concepts
- Promote independence: let a patient perform the portions of ADLs they can safely do; provide setup, adaptive equipment, or partial assistance rather than taking over.
- Use body mechanics and the assistance/equipment level in the care plan. Do not improvise a one-person maneuver when the plan requires more help.
- Denture/oral care: protect dentures from damage, use safe handling, and support independence when grip/coordination are limited.
Exam Tips
- Choose the least-assistive safe option that still matches the care plan.
- If tubing is kinked, under tension, or malpositioned, correct the mechanical safety problem before continuing movement.
